Gang Fight Leads to Shooting Near School

Three are in custody after a shooting near North Miami Beach Senior High

It was bullets, not a school bell, that rang out near a Miami-Dade high school Tuesday, which police say was part of gang violence.

Three people were arrested and two schools placed on lockdown after a group of suspected gang members exchanged gunfire near North Miami Beach Senior High school around 3 p.m.

Police say they got a call that two groups of young people were getting ready to fight, likely as part of a rival gang dispute. But as cops arrived to bust up the brawl, several people pulled out guns and started firing.

Luckily, no one was hit by the flying bullets.

The suspected gang members scattered, but police were able to track several down and found a handgun believed to be fired in the melee.

John F. Kennedy Middle School was also locked down, but both schools were allowed to release students within an hour.
