Gas Station Theft Caught on Camera in Miami

Surveillance video captured some fast-acting thieves. Just moments after a woman left her car to pay for gas, the crooks pulled up, opened her door and stole her belongings.

The sneaky thieves were caught on gas station surveillance video. It shows the customer going inside to pay for her fuel, when a silver Mazda zoomed in and pulled up beside the car.

The thieves worked fast. They managed to quickly break in, and grab the woman's purse.

"I just went out the car, real quick to the gas station. Paid, came back, put the gas. When I went into my car, I didn't see my purse," the victim said.

"Took her probably three to five seconds to get to the door of the gas station while simultaneously the van was already pulling up to her vehicle and helping themselves," the victim's husband explained.

The victim said the bandits got away with her belongings, including important identification cards and rent money.

"I just never think it would happen to me," the victim said.

Here are a few tips police suggest for staying safe at the pump:

  • Pick well-lit stations equipped with surveillance cameras.
  • Remove your keys and lock the doors while pumping gas.
  • Keep valuables out of view and lock the doors.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings.
