Is all of that Halloween candy starting to add up? If your child has too many treats left over from trick or treating, it may be time to put your money where your mouth is.
Area dentists are gearing up for the annual Halloween Candy Buy Back and your youngsters can cash-in and help out a really good cause.
About 1,700 dentists nationwide are participating, including dozens right here in South Florida. All you do is take the treats to a participating dentist and they will provide you $1 per pound. No questions asked.
The dentists are not keeping the candy. They will pack all of the pounds of candy and ship them to our troops overseas as part of Operation Gratitude. The goal is to ship 60,000 care packages in December. This is an on-going program and the troops are really thankful.

“I was so surprised to get a box in the mail from someone I don’t know. The box was filled with all sorts of useful items that will last me awhile. You are very thoughtful for taking the time and thinking about me," wrote one troop on the Operation Gratitude Website. "This is my first deployment and I didn’t realize that there were wonderful people out there like you who still think about us….Thank you for your support.”
Ultimate Smile in Ft. Lauderdale is one of several area dentists participating. That office will collect candy Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
