Man Yanks Woman, 84, by Gold Necklace in Lauderhill Attempted Robbery

An 84-year-old woman was dragged by her gold chain necklace by a man during an attempted robbery in Lauderhill.

Surveillance video released Wednesday captured the Nov. 14 incident outside of the Sadkin Center at 1176 NW 42 Way, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.

The woman told police she was walking to go inside the center when a man yanked at her necklace from behind to try to steal it, which caused her to fall to the ground. He was unsuccessful and ran northbound toward the Lauderhill Mall.

The woman uses a walker and was dragged from it when the suspect attacked her, police said. She sustained a scrape to the index finger, but she was hospitalized after telling police she had high blood pressure and was shaking.

The suspect was described as a black male, 20-25 years old, with two-inch hair twists and was wearing a gray shirt and long blue jeans.

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information should call Lauderhill police.
