Golfer Shot During Fairway Robbery Attempt Dies

Armed thieves target men on Deerfield Country Club links

A golfer who was shot by a would-be robber while he was playing a round at the Deerfield Country Club Thursday evening has died, police said.

Lataurus Randall, 35, was playing with a companion on the 17th hole when they were ambushed by two armed men wearing ski masks around 6:30 p.m.

Police said the two suspects jumped out of some bushes and tried to rob them.

A struggle ensued, and Randall was shot in the back. The other golfer, 43, was uninjured.

The two suspects fled the scene, running into a nearby residential neighborhood. Broward Sheriff's Office deputies used a helicopter and K-9 units to search for the pair but neither was found.

Randall was taken to North Broward Medical Center where he underwent surgery late Thursday night. He died Friday morning from his wounds.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
