‘Good Boy': Rookie Pensacola K-9 Wrestles Shotgun Away From Allegedly Drunk Florida Man

"Obviously, this could have ended a bunch of different ways. Most of them bad"

A rookie Pensacola Police Department K-9 named officer Foster wrestled a loaded shotgun away from an allegedly drunk Florida man in a tense confrontation captured on video.

The Pensacola Police Department said 36-year-old Oliver Hurst allegedly got drunk on Wednesday, grabbed a shotgun, broke into his girlfriend's home and threatened her.

The suspect then fled nearby to his own home, where he picked up the shotgun and turned toward officers, according to PPD.

However – "Who's a good boy?" PPD asked in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Foster – an 18-month-old German Shepherd purchased through donations from two Pensacola residents – "immediately latched onto the shotgun, wrestled it away from the suspect and carried the shotgun off into another room," PPD said.

Officers then used a Taser weapon to help apprehend Hurst.

Officials are crediting Foster for saving the lives of several officers and of the suspect.

"Obviously, this could have ended a bunch of different ways. Most of them bad. But thanks to the officers' restraint and a very loyal dog, your officers went home safely and the bad guy went to jail," PPD wrote.

Hurst faces charges of armed burglary, aggravated assault, battery, criminal mischief and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, PPD said in a statement.

Numerous Facebook comments on PPD's post suggested Foster receive a delicious steak as a reward. One user recommended Foster be nominated for the American Humane Hero Dog Awards, which recognizes "ordinary dogs who do extraordinary things."

"Pawsitivly amazing Officer Foster!" one Facebook user commented, while other posts referred to Foster as the "goodest boy."
