Grocery Store Owner Fires Back at Would-Be Robber

A grocery store owner in Little Havana fired back after a robber came into his store demanding cash from the register.

Workers at the Little Havana Supermarket were going about their business when a man burst into the store, pointed his weapon at the cashier, and threw a bag on the counter and began demanding money. But, this robber got a little more than he bargained for during the robbery.

“I turned to get more money, that’s when my boss came in and shot at him,” said cashier Cristian Duenas. “My boss missed. The robber then shot at my boss. The robber ran out shooting. I ducked so I wouldn’t get hit.”

A bullet from the attempted robber’s gun shattered the front door of the grocery store, but that was about the worst of the damage from the exchange of bullets.

“Everything happened so fast, thank God he didn’t take the money,” said Alberto Zamora, owner of the supermarket. “He threw it and it went everywhere. I have seen other robberies where the bad guys shoot several times. This guy just ran out.”

If you have any information about the robbery, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
