Sweet New Year's Day for Gunner, K-9 Keeper

The seven-month-old bloodhound reappeared on Sunday after nearly two days missing

Gunner has been found.

Sweetwater Police’s seven-month-old bloodhound, who went missing from his K-9 keeper’s Homestead backyard late Friday afternoon, reappeared on Sunday.

Officer Jenna Mendez said a woman found Gunner running around by a church near her home, knocked on her door, and turned Gunner over.

Mendez said she does not know who the woman was.

She said her dog seemed fine, though he will get a checkup at an animal clinic.

An extensive search that even included a Sweetwater helicopter was carried out Saturday for Gunner, a black and tan bloodhound who was donated to the police department by the Jimmy Ryce Foundation to help keep kids safe.

He is the second missing dog to turn up safe and sound following news reports this weekend, after a brown and white Shih Tzu puppy named Lucky resurfaced at the Miami-Dade Animal Services Shelter on Saturday.
