What to Know

  • Hassan Whiteside posted a message on Snapchat and on The Players' Tribune saying he intends to re-sign with the Miami Heat.

NBA Free Agency began at 12:01 AM Friday morning and the Miami Heat seem to have already signed the first piece of their puzzle to get back to the NBA Finals.

Center Hassan Whiteside, who was sought after by several teams, posted a message on Snapchat saying that he intends to re-sign with the Heat, which was sent throughout social media by happy Heat fans:

Whiteside later posted a short message on the website The Players' Tribune, saying in part "I've played on eight teams since college...I am not ready for there to be a ninth."

Whiteside has spent the last two seasons with the Heat, leading the NBA in blocks last season and being named to the All-Defense second team.

The Miami Herald reported Whiteside will make around $98 million over four years, starting with $22 million in the 2016-17 season. The Heat will now look to re-sign another player from last year’s team, veteran guard Dwyane Wade, as well as several other targets.
