One person is dead after two cars collided head-on in Sunrise early Friday morning, officials said.

Sunrise Fire Chief Dixon said the fatal accident happened along the 4200 block of North University Drive around 3:30 a.m.

Sunrise Police identified the deceased driver as Ricardo Antonio Rivas of Coral Springs later on Friday. He was driving a BMW 328i that collided with a Volkswagen SUV, and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
The person in the SUV was taken to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert, but had minor injuries, according to police.
It is unknown what caused the accident.
