Driver in Custody After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Hialeah: Police

Police said the driver was taken into custody after fleeing the scene on foot

A driver was taken into custody after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash that was caught on camera in Hialeah, police said.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday in the area of East 5th Avenue and 41st Street, Hialeah Police said.

Surveillance footage showed the two vehicles colliding at the intersection with one flipping onto its side.

Police said a woman in her 60s who was in the vehicle that was struck was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man in his 60s who was also in the vehicle was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Their names weren't released.

Cell phone footage from the scene showed the woman's body on the ground outside the vehicle and the bleeding man inside, the front windshield completely smashed.

The driver of the car that struck their vehicle fled the scene on foot after the crash but was taken into custody by officers. Police didn't release the driver's name or the charges they face.
