Two armed suspects were taken into custody after police say they stole gift cards from a Publix employee in Hollywood then led officers on a pursuit into northeast Miami-Dade Wednesday, officials said.

The incident began when the suspects stole $600 worth of gift cards from a worker at the Publix at 6901 Taft Street, Hollywood Police said.

The suspects fled in a car and were pursued by Hollywood officers into Miami-Dade before they bailed out of the car at Northeast 10th Avenue and 195th Street and ran into the yards of nearby homes.

"We just were looking through the windows looking at the cops running with guns and machine guns," witness Simone Seow said.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and were able to take the suspects into custody. The Broward Sheriff's Office and Miami-Dade Police assisted in the search.

Officials haven't identified the suspects or said what charges they may face.
