Hollywood High School to Honor Former Student Killed in Crash

Chaminade-Madonna to pay tribute to Ruben Narcisse before football opener

The Hollywood football standout who had just begun his college career at the University of Wyoming before he was tragically killed in an auto accident this week will be honored by his former high school team before their game Friday.

The Chaminade-Madonna Lions will pay tribute to Ruben Narcisse before their 4 p.m. home opener against American Heritage.

A prayer and a moment of silence are planned for Narcisse, and the team will wear the number of the linebacker and former Lions captain on their helmets.

Narcisse, 19, was killed early Monday morning in Colorado when the driver of the pickup he was riding in fell asleep and the truck drifted off the road.

The truck was heading northbound on a highway about six miles south of the Wyoming border at about 5:30 a.m. when it veered off the left side of the road, ran into a tree and rock embankment and rolled over.

Three of his Wyoming teammates who were also in the truck survived the crash.

Wyoming coach Dave Christensen called the accident a "terrible tragedy, and a terrible loss." The freshman Narcisse hadn't played in Wyoming's 28-20 win over Southern Utah on Saturday.

Another pregame tribute is planned for the Texas-Wyoming game on Saturday in Austin. The Longhorns will hold a moment of silence for Narcisse and post a photo of him on their massive video screen while their band plays a song for the Wyoming team.Wyoming players will wear "RN" stickers on their helmets and players will wear his #12 jersey throughout the season.

Narcisse wore #4 during his time at Chaminade-Madonna, where he led the team to a 12-1 regular season and all the way to the state semifinals his senior year.

A prayer service is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Chaminade-Madonna.
