Homeless People Rescue Family after Car Plunges into Canal

A group of homeless people has rescued two adults and three small children after their SUV tumbled into a Palm Beach County canal.

The Palm Beach Post reports that four homeless people in Lake Worth's John Prince Park heard the car crash through a guardrail Saturday evening and rushed to rescue the unidentified family.

Forty-three-year-old John Garrett and 42-year-old Keith Rubio, both of whom have been living in the park for several months, say they entered the waist-deep water and helped the mother remove the three children from the vehicle and bring the passengers to safety.

The adults were treated by arriving emergency personnel and released at the scene. Deputies say the children were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Investigators have not determined what caused the crash.
