Missing 5-Year-Old Homestead Girl Found

A five-year-old girl who went missing for several hours Tuesday was dropped off at her home just after 5 p.m.

"I was very, over emotion in tears, somebody grabbed me by the hand and took me out there by the van," said Annie Pearson, the child's grandmother. "I was like, I just couldn't wait to see her."

From Chopper 6, a police officer was seen holding the child, named Geneya Pearson, and speaking with others at the scene.

A family member told Homestead Police the child had been at daycare all day and was dropped off by a bus driver from the daycare.

Homestead Police said they were first contacted about the missing child around 1 p.m. The family said she had last been seen around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The search that was launched spanned 10-15 miles in Homestead and into Florida City. Dive teams, bloodhounds, and detectives were all dispatched to help find the child.

Police haven't released any other details about the incident. However, Geneya's mother was arrested shortly after the girl was brought back to the home.

"You know, every young parent or old should know where their child is at all times," Annie Pearson said. "For you not to know where your child is is not understandable to me and my daughter knows I don't play that."
