A Homestead school was placed on lockdown early Thursday after reports of a nearby shooting, police said.
West Homestead Elementary at 1550 Southwest 6th Street was placed on precautionary lockdown after reports of a shooting in the area of Northwest 8th Street and 14th Avenue, Homestead Police officials said.
One person had been shot and a suspect was on the loose, police said. The identity and condition of the victim were unknown.
The lockdown was lifted around noon, police said.
