Homestead Teacher Arrested, Accused of Inappropriate Relationship With Student: Schools Police

A South Dade Senior High School teacher has been arrested following an allegation that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student, Miami-Dade Schools Police said.

A South Dade Senior High School teacher was arrested Wednesday following an allegation that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student, Miami-Dade Schools Police said.

Bresnniel Jansen, 32, was taken into custody on two counts of sexual act with a familial child and one count of electronic transmission harmful to minors, police said. He was released on $10,000 bond Thursday afternoon.

Jansen allegedly engaged in consensual intercourse with a 17-year-old female victim who is one of Jansen's students at South Dade, according to a police affidavit. Police said the victim also performed oral sex on Jansen in his classroom and sent him nude photos through text messages.

After being read his Miranda rights, Jansen admitted to the allegations, according to the affidavit.

A formal investigation is underway, police said.

It wasn't immediately known whether Jansen has an attorney. He is a geometry teacher at the Homestead school.

"A faculty member was arrested earlier today following an allegation of an inappropriate relationship with a student,” the school’s principal told parents in a voicemail Wednesday night.

The news of Jansen’s arrest quickly made the rounds on Twitter, where the teacher was being tried in the court of public opinion.

"I’ve never had him as a teacher but I've heard a lot about him and some people are saying they saw it coming or that they were expecting it. But some aren’t,” said an 18-year-old high school senior who did not want to be identified.

County records indicate Jansen has been married since 2008.

"I think that's terrible, unfortunately, you have to wait 'til all of the evidence has been presented, then you make a decision," parent Daniel Brown said Thursday.

A South Florida father told NBC 6 Thursday night that Jansen inappropriately texted his teenage daughter back in 2008 when she was his student.

“She reported it to school and then they did an investigation and it ended up that nothing happened,” Roberto Fundoro said.

Fundoro showed NBC 6 text messages he said Jansen sent to his daughter.

"Talk to me, what's going on?" said one. "Go to the bath room and come by," said another. A third message read, "Oye, im worried."

Fundoro has documents from the 2008 investigation indicating there was no violation of district rules, and no probable cause to support the texting allegations. The case was closed.

Fundoro said he thought the district was wrong then – and thinks the same five years later.

“I am glad that he got caught, and now I feel better that my daughter was saying the truth and they didn’t believe her at that time,” he said.

The Jansen case is not the first time South Dade Senior High has made headlines for alleged inappropriate relationships between teachers and students.

In March 2012, a physical education teacher was arrested for lewd and lascivious battery after he took a student for a ride off school grounds, gave her a marijuana cigarette, and had the 15-year-old perform oral sex on him, police said.
