House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in South Florida at Event Promoting Democracy in Venezuela

What to Know

  • Pelosi will be joined by Reps. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donna Shalala.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined several Democratic members of Congress from South Florida in addressing efforts to peacefully transition to democracy in Venezuela.

Pelosi joined Reps. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donna Shalala as well as local community leaders at an event in Weston.

Mucarsel-Powell, Wasserman Schultz, and Shalala are leading congressional efforts to extend life-saving protections to those who have fled or are now surviving now under the starvation, violence, and persecution of the Nicolás Maduro regime.

Pelosi’s visit comes just days after the announcement of an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump – while the President was also in Florida and spoke with supporters at a health care event in The Villages.

Pelosi took a handful of questions regarding the impeachment inquiry after the hour-long discussion on TPS.

She called the impeachment path the country is on "sad," adding that "President Trump put us in this situation."

Local democrats say the president is adding fuel to the fire by saying in front of reporters that China should start an investigation in his potential rival Joe Biden.
