The troubled, middle-aged son of former Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga was busted this morning for boating under the influence in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
Robert Ray Huizenga refused to submit to an alcohol test and was arrested on Lido Drive south of Las Olas Blvd., according to a police report.
According to the report, Huizenga and another man were arrested after police received a call of a burglary at a home in Fort Lauderdale. The other man, identified as 44-year-old Patrick Stewart, was arrested and charged with trespassing and drug possession.
Police found Huizenga in a boat nearby, and the report says he smelled of alcohol and was slurring his speech. He was charged with boating under the influence and probation violations.
Police are still investigating the incident.
Huizenga, 47, has three convictions for DUI, the latest coming in 2003, after a drunk-driving incident left a 71-year-old man bloodied with a broken elbow and a concussion.
Huizenga was still on probation after he plead no contest in the 2003 accident, which he served 83 days in jail for.
He is scheduled to make an appearance in a Broward County court at 1:30 p.m.
H. Wayne Huizenga took over ownership of the Dolphins in 1993, and sold most of his stake in the team to Stephen Ross in January 2009. Huizenga, the mogul behind Blockbuster Video, also owned the Marlins and Panthers.
