Son a Suspect in Hollywood Woman's Murder

Police investigate after mother of three found dead

Police investigating the death of a woman found murdered inside her Hollywood home have named her son as a suspect, and arrested him on an unrelated charge.

Irene Kertesz, 62, was found dead inside her home in the 2400 block of Northwest 57th Way around 9 p.m. Saturday night, according to Hollywood Police.

Her son Jason Kertesz was charged Monday afternoon on an unrelated parole violation.

The 29-year-old was in possession of his mother's ATM card and vehicle, according to police, who said they were able to track his activities all weekend.

Kertesz was apprehended in Aventura after a brief foot chase, and police say he has multiple arrests on his record.

Irene Kertesz was a mother of three. Her husband called 911 after finding her body Saturday night, but police will not disclose how she died.

"When officers arrived, they found her and they also looked at the scene and said there is something fishy going on here," Lt. Diana Pereira said.

Kim Richards, a long-time neighbor of Kertesz, said she's shocked something like this would happen.

"This is just very unusual, this is a very quiet neighborhood," said Richards. "It does bother me if this is what's happening with these times and the economy if this is how it's turning, this is very very scary."

Police are asking anyone with information to call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
