‘I Was a Pork Chop Thrown Among Wolves': Cabbie Cleared in Sex Battery

A Broward cab driver who was looking at potentially spending the rest of his life behind bars in a sexual battery case before the charges were dropped because police say his accuser lied says he's still shocked by his arrest.

"Seeing myself locked away and surrounded by so many people who confessed their guilt and I felt like I was a pork chop thrown among wolves," Ronald Smith told NBC 6, in an exclusive interview.

Smith is heading back to something he's done for three decades: transporting his taxi cab customers. But two weeks ago it was a ride to a Wilton Manors motel and what a woman told police happened there that almost altered Smith's life forever.

Smith ended up facing allegations that inside the motel he used mace and a stun gun to threaten the woman and forced her to perform sex acts.

"It was a shocker," Smith said, looking back at the allegations.

Smith, who had his mugshot taken as he was booked into jail, was flabbergasted a woman he said he knew for over a year, had been to her home, met her family, would accuse him of such a terrible crime. He said the sex was consensual and was their only time being intimate.

"That was the first and the only time of that intimacy," Smith said.

Smith's attorney, David Kubiliun, credits Wilton Manors detectives with getting to the bottom of it: he committed no crime. He thinks the woman, who is an undocumented immigrant, may have fabricated the story to aid her immigration status.

"I do understand there is a special provision or status for victims of domestic violence and in this case a victim of alleged sexual battery," Kubiliun said. "So clearly, I think that could have been the motivation in this case."

"Ye shall know the truth and it makes you free," Smith said.

Wilton Manors police said when questioned the woman admitted to lying to them. Police say now she could face charges for her actions that led to Smith's arrest.
