New Florida Law Protects You Against Contractor Fraud

For years, NBC 6 Responds has reported about homeowners who have lost money to rogue contractors. Now new changes to state law aim to make it easier to prosecute contractors who take money but don't do the work.

Homeowners like Robert Haag and Lilly Krause who told us they handed over lump sums for home improvement work but say the contractor never did the work.

"I am 78, we saved money out of our social security and the little retirement I have," Haag told us back in 2018.

Cases like Haag's have caught the attention of state lawmakers.

No Injuries After Train Traveling From MIA Derails

Around 30 passengers had to evacuate a Metrorail train after it derailed from the tracks as it left from Miami International Airport Friday evening.

The train partially derailed after 6 p.m. while transitioning on the tracks near Northwest 41st Street and 23rd Avenue at a low speed rate, said Miami-Dade Transit spokesperson Karla Damian.

It was heading southbound from the MIA station to the Earlington Heights station.

Angry Florida Man Goes on Rampage at City Hall After Being Fired

A city worker who attacked his supervisor when he was fired on Wednesday, then threw a chair at a woman in Indian Rocks Beach City Hall before taking a city-owned truck and driving it toward a group of women standing outside the building, investigators in Florida said.

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies arrested Errol Gray, 52, shortly thereafter Wednesday morning. He's charged with aggravated assault and battery and resisting arrest.
