An inmate from the Plantation Key jail facility escaped from custody Friday while working as a trusty, which is a prisoner who is given special privileges or responsibilities in return for good behavior.

Sean Michael Stacey, 37, was working outside the jail facility as a maintenance trusty for Monroe County Public Works when he went missing.

He was last seen in the area of High Point Road on Plantation Key at 4 p.m. His orange jail jumpsuit was recovered nearby.

Stacey is 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with blue eyes and short red hair. He has been in jail since September 2014 on charges of burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief.

Stacey is from the Florida City area and law enforcement in that area has been notified and is helping to look for him.

Anyone who sees Stacey or has any information which might help locate him should call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
