While many people have the day off on Christmas, the 911 call center in Miami Beach is fully staffed to handle emergencies.
"We have to keep the community safe and we have a job that has to be done. So we have to have staff available and working to do the job that we do 365," said Shari Holbert Lipner.
Tracy Cadet has worked on Christmas for ten years in a row.
"If somebody needs to call 911 for any reason, I'm happy I can answer the phone for them," Cadet said.
Miami Beach officials say they receive calls from all over the world and have translators on standby 24 hours a day.
