Investigation Continues Into String of Armed Robberies in Broward Parking Lot, Possible Link to Miami-Dade Case

A recent string of armed robberies has shoppers at one Davie supermarket keeping an eye out – and now, officers are investigating whether the crimes have spread to another county.

Police responded to the parking lot of a Publix at 15801 Sheridan Street Tuesday morning after reports that a woman had her purse snatched. Officials say they have had at least five similar calls in the last week and a half, believing that the same person might be responsible in each case.

Hallandale Beach Police said they detained a man who fits the description of the suspect in a parking lot across the street from the Publix at 1400 E. Hallandale Beach Boulevard Tuesday. Police are investigating if he's the same suspect.

At the same time, Miami-Dade crews responded to a call of an armed robbery at a shopping center off Northwest 86th Avenue and 186th Street in Miami Gardens. The victim suffered an injury to her head.

Police from both areas are communicating with each other to see if the same person is involved.

The description of the suspected robber in the Miami Gardens case reportedly matches the one for the incident that took place in Broward County this morning. The person is described as being 6-foot-10 and was seen wearing a checkered shirt, black shoes and was wearing a gold chain - fleeing in a Chevrolet Malibu.
