Jobless Rate in Florida the Worst Ever

Unemplyment rate is 12.2 percent and climbing

Florida's army of the unemployed keeps growing and has now reached record levels.

State labor officials say Florida's unemployment rate hit 12.2 percent in February 2010, the highest on record since the state
began counting the jobless a generation ago.

About 1,126,000 Floridians were out of work last month out of a total work force of 9,251,000.

The unemployment rate grew by 0.2 percentage points from January and by 3 percentage points from February 2009.

In addition, Florida's jobless rate is remaining higher than the national average, which reached 9.7 percent in February.

The statistics were released Friday by the state's Agency for Workforce Innovation.
