Jogger Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash: Coral Gables Police

Odiliana Gonzalez, 46, was struck Monday by a vehicle that fled the scene, police said

A jogger who was struck by a red car in a hit-and-run crash Monday is in serious but stable condition at Doctors Hospital, Coral Gables Police said.

Police said Odiliana Gonzalez, 46, was jogging at the intersection of Country Club Prado and South Greenway Drive when she was struck by a vehicle, possibly a Jeep, that fled from the scene. Police said they responded at about 6 p.m.

Coral Gables Fire Rescue took Gonzalez to Doctors Hospital, at 5000 University Drive.

The suspect vehicle was last seen heading north on Red Road from South Greenway Drive, police said.

Gonzalez had surgery on her right leg and may need more.

"I heard people screaming and when I turned around, I saw her on the ground. At that point I ran back. I saw her on the ground. I tried to help stabilize her until the paramedics got there," said her boyfriend Angel Pinto.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the hit-and-run to call Coral Gables Police at 305-442-1600 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

"He hit a human being. He had to know that he hit someone," Pinto said.

"If you don't have a stop sign, you need to stop anyway because the cross traffic doesn't realize and they just keep going. It's not the first accident," said neighbor Charlie Sampera.

"She was speaking, but she was in and out. She thought she was dreaming. Obviously, she might have been out for a few seconds, and then actually realized what had happened," Pinto said.
