Judge Issues Temporary Injunction Against Fort Lauderdale Homeless Feeding Ordinance

A Broward judge issued a temporary injunction Tuesday that will allow activists to feed Fort Lauderdale's homeless.

Judge Thomas Lynch issued the 30-day injunction against the city's controversial ordinance that restricts feeding the homeless outdoors in certain areas.

The issue recently went viral when 90-year-old Arnold Abbot was cited for feeding the homeless last month. Abbott, who runs a nonprofit group called Love Thy Neighbor Inc., has been feeding the homeless for 23 years.

Abbott and others have continued to feed the homeless despite the ordinance, as the city has continued to receive negative publicity. Protesters gathered outside the federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale over the weekend, and hacker group Anonymous took down the city's website Monday to protest the ordinance.

Lynch is asking the city and Abbott to go to mediation to settle the issue.
