Justin Flowers, Teen Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash, Honored With Memorial Garden

Friends and family of Justin Flowers gathered at his high school Tuesday morning to remember the 15-year-old who was killed in a hit-and-run crash exactly one year ago.

A memorial garden for Justin Flowers was dedicated at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs. Flowers was a freshman with dreams of one day becoming a dancer. One of his teachers had his chair engraved with his name and "Class of 2017." That chair stood in the garden with a single rose, a very stark reminder of Flowers' absence.

Flowers, a freshman at J. P. Taravella High School, was crossing the street when he was struck by an older model Jeep Cherokee that was changing lanes, police said. The dark-colored Cherokee continued westbound on West Broward Boulevard, making a right turn onto State Road 7 to travel north, according to police.

The teen was thrown to the ground and rushed to Broward Health Medical Center where he later died.

Flowers' mother, who spoke at the dedication ceremony, is still hoping someone will speak up about what happened the night her son was killed.

"Just do the right thing," said Diana Romero. "Just show up. Maybe we don't know he is, or maybe somebody knows but is afraid to talk. But, God knows who it is."

Police are now offering a $5,000 reward for information on the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 954-493-TIPS.
