Teen Dies After Being Struck While Walking to School in Pembroke Pines: Police

A 15-year-old boy who was struck by a car as he walked to school in Pembroke Pines Tuesday has died, police say.

The accident occurred at 8:14 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Taft Street at 105th Avenue. According to officers, Keon Hylton was on his way to school when he attempted to cross Taft Street from south to north. The teen was not at a crosswalk, police say.

Yemile Roman, 51, was driving a 2006 blue Dodge pickup truck headed east on Taft Street when she crossed paths with the Hylton, striking him with the truck's front bumper.

Hylton was transported in critical condition to Memorial Regional Hospital where he died Wednesday evening from the injuries sustained in the incident.

This is considered an ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed, police said.
