Key West Bed Race Honors Independence Celebration

10 beds participated in 29th annual Conch Republic Red Ribbon Red Race.

Residents competed in the 29th annual Conch Republic Red Ribbon Red Race in Key West this weekend right from the comfort of their own beds.

As part of the race, residents had to push and pull their beds on wheels down Duval Street, according to the Florida Keys News Bureau.

The 10 beds were individually decorated with some looking like Batmobiles or chili peppers and others themed like the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Marketed as the “most fun you can have in bed with your clothes on,” the race was part of the city’s Conch Republic Independence Celebration and doubled as a fundraiser for the AIDS Help organization.

The independence celebration commemorates the day the island city staged a secession from the U.S. in 1982, according to the Florida Keys News Bureau.
