New Year's Eve revelers in Key West had their pick of six unusual "drops" taking place on the eight-square-mile subtropical island.

Sushi, whose real name is Gary Marion, said he had been doing the event for 21 years and that it had "become a worldwide thing".
"It's amazing, isn't it? I mean all these people come to see a drag queen in a shoe. You know, 20 years ago, 21 years ago, there was like 10 people here, you know? But now it's like become a worldwide thing," said Marion.
Meanwhile, a huge replica of a conch shell, the symbol of the Florida Keys, dropped at Sloppy Joe's Bar, while the Schooner Wharf Bar featured a pirate wench descending a tall ship's mast.
The Ocean Key Resort had a faux Key lime wedge splashing into a giant margarita glass, while the "tuna drop" was at the Smokin' Tuna Saloon.

The island's newest answer to the Times Square ball drop salutes Key West's aviation heritage.
