Sheriff's officials in Florida say a kindergartner put his father's loaded gun inside his backpack and brought it into his classroom.

The 6-year-old student initially told Palm Beach County Sheriff's investigators that he didn't know the gun was in his bag until it fell out of his backpack when he tossed it down in a classroom at Somerset Academy Lakes on March 8.

On Monday, deputies told news outlets the boy knowingly brought the gun to school. His father told investigators he had no idea the child had the gun. It's not clear whether anyone will be charged. Once the investigation is completed, detectives will turn the case over to the state attorney's office.

School Principal Clint Duvo told parents in a message that students were never in danger.
