Large Python Caught at Matheson Hammock Park

It was no picnic in the park for Miami-Dade Police officers and a fire rescue worker who had to remove a large python Monday.

Lt. Lisa Wood, from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's venom unit, was called to Matheson Hammock Park to remove the python, estimated to be between eight and nine feet long, officials said.

Wood and marine officers were able to get control of the python, which was nuzzled in tree branches.

The fate of the python was unknown.
