Late Goals Burn Panthers in Loss to Calgary

Three goals in the 3rd period turned a win into a 6-4 loss for Florida on Saturday

The Florida Panthers lost 6-4 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday after a pair of goals towards the end of regulation.

Calgary scored three times in the third period with the final two goals coming within the last three minutes of the game. Entering that last period, the Panthers held a 4-3 advantage but the game was then tied at the 4:53 mark.

Earlier in the game, the Panthers thought a historic moment had taken place. Scottie Upshall with two goals already in the game seemingly put a third into the net. It would've been the second hat trick of Upshall's career and the first of the year for the Panthers. The goal however would end up being credited to Jimmy Hayes instead as he tipped it in.

Upshall's first goal came early in the first period and it was assisted on by Aaron Ekblad. The second goal was in the second period with an assist from Vincent Trocheck and Dmitry Kulikov. Upshall now has three goals this year which ties him with Brandon Pirri for the team lead in that department.

Al Montoya started for Florida at goalie and had a rough game. The backup allowed five of the goals. The sixth goal was during an empty net situation towards the end of play. Montoya only had 24 chances giving him a dismal .792 save percentage in this game. Roberto Luongo is expected to be back in the net for the next game.

Colby Robak and Tomas Fleischmann were healthy scratches for Florida while Sean Bergenheim missed another game with a lower body injury.

The Panthers will take the next two days off before taking on the San Jose Sharks at home on Tuesday.
