Jewish Center Lifeguard Accused of Sexual Battery

Jefferson Kurtz is charged with 3 counts of sexual battery

A New York teenager visiting South Florida has been arrested and charged with sexual battery after the family he was staying with claims he assaulted their 7-year-old son.

Jefferson Kurtz, 19, was arrested at his home in Queens and is expected to be extradited back to Broward County to face the charges.

Police think there may be more victims because Kurtz worked as a lifeguard at the Jewish Community Center in Aventura and was often around children. He worked at the center from June to November before he returned to New York.

According to Pembroke Pines Police, Kurtz spent the summer living with a family he had befriended in the Pembroke Isles housing subdivision. The family came forward with the accusations in December, after Kurtz had flown back to his home.

Police have not released any details on what Kurtz specifically might have done or what evidence they may have against the teen.

Kurtz is charged with three counts of sexual battery, four counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and one count of exhibition in the presence of a minor.

Police are urging any other victims or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Pembroke Pines Police Department at 954-431-2200, email to Tips@ppines.com, or call Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
