Women Rob 80-Year-Old Fruit Seller in Little Havana: Police

Two women are in jail after robbing an 80-year-old fruit seller in Little Havana, an attack a witness caught on camera.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon in the area of SW 14th Avenue and SW 5th Street, according to an arrest form.

According to police, the victim was standing by his SUV with the trunk open where the fruit was displayed. As he was standing there, he felt someone reach into his pocket. He turned around the encountered the women, who demanded cash from him.

As he tried to defend himself, the women started striking him and attempted to steal his wallet, police said.

A witness driving by the scene stopped the car and started taking photos of the suspects, while the victim was yelling for help. Before the witness could intervene, the suspects ran away southbound on SW 14th Avenue towards SW 6th Street, according to the arrest form.

With the witness' photographs, police were able track down the women, who were both located and arrested later that day.

Aurelio Santos told Telemundo 51 he's been selling fruit in that same corner for 14 years and that he works 14 hours a day.

On Friday, 33-year-old Miladys Guerrero and 31-year-old Jessica Mir appeared in bond court, where a judge found probable cause for the causes of strong arm robbery. They were ordered to stay away from the vendor.
