Wilmington Breweries Are Using Tanks to Serve Purified Water to Residents After Florence

Breweries in North Carolina are preparing to make and serve purified water to the community after Hurricane Florence.

The potentially catastrophic Category 2 storm is expected to hover off the coast of North Carolina from Thursday night until it makes landfall Saturday morning. States of emergency were declared in North and South Carolina and Virginia, and over a million residents were ordered to evacuate.

Bills Front Porch Pub and Brewery in Wilmington, North Carolina, have been serving customers who haven't left the area yet.

"I feel like they always prepare for the worst. I feel like it might be bad but I think that we can make it," said Meredith Langley, a Wilmington native who's riding out the hurricane.

Bills Brewery and others in the area are prepared to serve people after the hurricane by providing purified water on tap.

Water is being purified through a filtration system and then will be stored in two barrels. Each barrel has about 600 gallons of water, which makes more than 1,200 gallons ready for the community.

Residents of the affected states prepared for the worst in the days leading up to the storm by boarding up windows, stocking up sandbags and preparing to evacuate.
