Local Dog That Saved Owner Honored Again

Tatiana is a hearing dog with service dog skills, her owner told NBC 6.

Because Cristina Saint-Blancard's best friend saved her life almost two years ago, she's receiving an award -- at the Greater Miami Humane Society.

Saint-Blancard's best friend and guardian angel is Tatiana, her black Labrador mix. She is a hearing dog with service dog skills that Saint-Blancard got almost two years ago, her owner told NBC 6.

Tatiana was recently acknowledged by the American Humane Association Hero Dog Award, which recognizes the powerful relationship between dogs and people. On Saturday, Tatiana received the Animal Hero award at the humane society.

Saint-Blancard told NBC 6 South Florida she had a severe asthma attack in the middle of the night.

"She was smart and quick enough to known something was very wrong," she said about her pet.

Tatiana alerted Saint-Blancard's parents, who were able to get help in time.

"It was a matter of seconds, so she undoubtedly saved my life," she said.

Susan Hargreaves, who presented the Animal Hero award, emphasized the importance of celebrating acts of kindness amid all of the recent violence.

"The more we recognize the individuals and groups that help others, the more we counteract that violence," she said.

Tatiana received a bag of goodies and a plaque for her hard work.
