Local Immigrant Leaders Gather Outside Sen. Nelson's Office, Demand DREAM Act

Activists gathered outside of Senator Bill Nelson’s office in Coral Gables Sunday, demanding DACA action and saying the latest court ruling is just a temporary victory for their path to citizenship.

The activists are part of several organizations, including United We Dream, WeCount!, and Students Working for Equal Rights. On Sunday, they put the pressure on Democratic Senator Bill Nelson to act.

Senator Nelson has spoken out in support for the DREAM Act, saying he’s pushing to get it passed. Thousands of dreamers in South Florida, however, say the clock is ticking. Congress must approve a DREAM Act as part of this year’s spending bill by Friday.

Earlier this week, a California federal judge temporarily blocked President Trump’s Plan to phase out protection for undocumented dreamers. But immigrants in legal limbo fear it’s not enough.

So, protestors are backing up their message with a plan of action. They plan on boarding a bus and heading to the Nation’s Capitol to demand that Congress find a solution.
