South Florida Boatyard Destroyed by Fire

Owners say fireworks may have started blaze at Trick Marine in Oakland Park

Fire ravaged a South Florida boatyard late Tuesday night, destroying a building and at least one boat

The fire broke out at Trick Marine, located at Prospect and NE 6th Avenue in Oakland Park around 10pm. Fire investigators believe it may have started in a boat and then spread to the surrounding building.

More than 70 firefighters from six different departments responded to contain the fire.

"This was a pretty extensive fire," said Chief Donald Widing of Oakland Park Fire Rescue. "Unfortunately, we always hate to see this kind of economic loss to our community, even though we had a quick response time."

Trick Marine has been in business for more than 20 years. Pam Grosser and her son, Richard own the business. "We're just a family owned business," said Pam Grosser. "It's just devastating, that's all I can say."

Grosser said she heard initially that the fire may have been started by kids playing with fireworks in the area. "We heard fireworks landed in one of our boats that was here for service and it ignited and that's what started the fire," Grosser said.

Fire investigators have not confirmed that to NBC Miami yet, but an arson investigator and the fire marshall are looking into that possibility.

Grosser said the business lost at least 5 service bays and a boat, but the total damage is still unknown.
