Locals Pitch in at Church Feeding after Turkeys Stolen

Locals are rallying around a Florida charity after someone broke in and stole their turkeys meant for an early Thanksgiving feast.

Pastor Sylvia Tisdale said thieves broke into the Epps Christian Center in Pensacola on Friday and made off with computers and a bank deposit, emptied the freezers of turkeys. She said they even stole the paper towels.

Her ministry was in the midst of preparing meals to feed the hungry at an event Saturday.

But when news broke out, dozens descended on the church to bring supplies, cash donations and food, including turkeys and hams.

The Pensacola News Journal reports dozens of volunteers cooked all night Friday and Saturday morning to prepare boxed meals. In the end, nearly 500 hungry people were served.
