2 Students Arrested After Gun Found on Hollywood School Campus: Police

Two schools in Hollywood were placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon. Now, two students face charges following the incident.

According to Hollywood Police, Apollo Middle School and Hollywood Park Elementary School were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Police said a handgun was found underneath a portable at Apollo.

Two students were arrested and will be charged with possession of a gun on school grounds. Police said the gun was stolen, but they are investigating how the suspects ended up with it. Both are being charged as juveniles.

"In light of what is going on nowadays with school shootings, this is something we take very seriously. We have strict protocols when it comes to this," said Jamie Hernandez with Hollywood Police.

Investigators said students saw the two suspects holding the gun separately and reported it to a school resource officer, who then notified police.

It's unclear whether the gun was loaded.

The schools were on what the district calls "code yellow," which requires students to say in their classrooms. They were released just after 4 p.m. after the lockdown was lifted.

Detectives applauded the fact that students saw something and said something.
