Long Hours of Waiting for Media on Manning Watch at Dolphins Facility

A behind-the-scenes look

News emerged late this afternoon that prized free agent quarterback Peyton Manning is expected to meet with Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin soon, but Manning watch has been going on all day for the media stationed outside the team’s training camp.

"So much of it is out of your control. You don't really know what's happening,” said Ed O’Brien, a producer for the NFL Network, which has a tent set up for its team. “You think they're inside, you're not sure they're inside. It stinks when you don't really know what's going on, so you're sitting and waiting."

Several times Monday what media members thought might be a Manning sighting turned out not to be.

"I've been here since 8:00 this morning waiting to see what happens with Peyton Manning – whether he shows up to visit the facility or not,” photographer Andy Kay said. “It's basically sit and wait. That's why I brought my chair."

The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback may be just days away from choosing his next team. The Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals are believed to be the favorites, though Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is reportedly "ready to make a major offer."

Manning landed in South Florida last week, just hours after being released from the Colts. He has a home in Miami, and it's unknown if he spoke with Dolphins officials then, but some sources say he has no more visits planned with other teams. He could still talk with Dolphins officials, though.

"I think he's probably talking to the owner – today, tonight, tomorrow and get a gauge on this,” O’Brien said. “I think it's going to be decided the next few days. I would think this is going to be over sooner rather than later."
