Luongo Saves 36 as Panthers Take 2nd Straight

The Panthers picked up a 2-1 win over the Flyers on Saturday as Roberto Luongo saved 36

The Florida Panthers won their second consecutive game on Saturday with their 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Roberto Luongo saved 36 of his 37 chances which continued a stretch of great games for the goalie. After a slow start, Luongo has put up numbers that position him as one of the best goaltenders in the entire NHL this year.

The first goal came courtesy of Willie Mitchell and it was the first of the season for him. The assists on that goal went to Jussi Jokinen and Brad Boyes. Jokinen has five assists on the year and they've all come in the last four games. Boyes has three assists this year and this was his first in his last three games.

The second goal for Florida was in the third period off the stick of Aaron Ekblad. It was the first goal of Ekblad's NHL career and was assisted on by Brian Campbell, and Jimmy Hayes. It was a power play goal and the Panthers went 1-4 on power plays in the game. Campbell had assists in the first two games of the year and then went without another point until this game. Hayes had not played since October 17th and this was his first assist on the season.

Florida had 30 shots on goal with the majority of them coming during the first period while Philadelphia had 37 with 18 coming in the third period. The lone goal for the Flyers was towards the end of the game with eight seconds left.

Sean Bergenheim and Aleksander Barkov were scratched with lower body injuries while Jonathan Huberdeau was a healthy scratch for Florida.

The Panthers will head to Boston on Tuesday for a game with the Bruins at 7:00 p.m.
