Man, 19, Shot and Killed in Opa-locka

Police are investigating after a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in Opa-locka Monday night.

Officers responded to a "shots fired" call shortly before midnight in the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue when they found Calvin Eford suffering from a gunshot wound, Miami-Dade Police said.

He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he later died.

Neighbors said they saw Eford walk past his house and around the corner before hearing gunshots.

"It was just a senseless killing that didn't need to take place," a neighbor who goes by "Ladybird" said.

Mother Roselyn Eford said she is now making funeral arrangements for her son instead of preparing for his high school graduation.

"It's my first time experiencing this and I see what other mothers go through when something happens to their kids," she said. "Well I want justice for my son because my son was a good kid. I don't know who did this to him, but we are going to find out who did it.

Police are investigating the shooting by handing out flyers in the neighborhood.
