Man Accused of Hiring Hit Man to Kill Brother Over Family Fortune

Man was willing to pay $100,000 to get rid of his own brother

Blood might be thicker than water, but it wasn't stronger than greed for two brothers, Fort Lauderdale Police said Tuesday.

Jim Roy Watkins was arrested after police claim he tried to hire a hit man to kill his younger brother, Steven, who he was feuding with over their parents' $20-million estate.

Watkins, 59, was willing to pay $100,000 for the murder and provided pictures of his brother and gave details on how he wanted the hit carried out.

In December, Watkins met with a possible hit man for hire and said he would pay $20,000 upfront and then as much as $80,000 for a successful murder.

"It's devastating to me, and my life will be forever changed," Steven Watkins told the Sun-Sentinel.

The brothers had last seen each other just before Christmas.

Police received a tip that Watkins was in the market for a hit man and arrested him Friday. He has been charged with solicitation to commit murder and is being held without bond.

Watkins and his brother were already going to court over their family's estate, which was part of a civil suit.
