Man Accused of Punching Stepson Gets $7,500 Bond

The man allegedly punched his stepson three times

A Davie man arrested for allegedly punching his stepson three times and leaving him a bloody nose was held on $7,500 bond Friday.

Robert Dominguez, 59, was arrested Thursday and faces one count of cruelty toward a child, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office.

His bond was raised “based on the level of violence and the court’s concern for the safety of the young man,” Judge John Hurley said in court.

A member of Dominguez’s family said the man called his 16-year-old stepson a "devil" and threw beer on him, according to the arrest affidavit. Dominguez proceeded to punch the boy three times, the report said. The strike to his nose caused him to bleed.

The boy pushed Dominguez back to prevent him from continuing the fight. He said he was worried for his safety because Dominguez had previously been violent with him, authorities said.

Police arrived at the home and said that Dominguez appeared to be intoxicated. His daughter told authorities that he had a drinking problem.

In bond court, Dominguez said he was retired and disabled. The judge ordered to stay away from his stepson if he is released from jail. He was also ordered to stay away from the boy’s home for which he pays.

It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
