Man Arrested After Hialeah Bar Fight Ended in Murder: Police

Police have arrested a man who they say fatally shot another man after a fight at a Hialeah bar back in June.

Carlos Lamas, 26, was arrested Wednesday on a second-degree murder charge in the killing of 37-year-old Yusniel Morales Oliva, Miami-Dade Police said.

According to an arrest warrant, Oliva and his girlfriend went to La Mejor Del Caribe Cafeteria in Hialeah back on June 27, where Lamas and his girlfriend were also hanging out.

Surveillance footage from the bar showed Oliva and Lamas get into a physical confrontation at the bar in the early morning hours of June 28, the warrant said.

Oliva left the bar a short time later but returned and found his truck missing. Surveillance footage showed Lamas had hot-wired it and let his girlfriend drive off in it while he followed behind in her car, the warrant said.

Oliva got a ride home from a witness but by the time he got there, Lamas and his girlfriend were already at the home, the warrant said.

Lamas, who was armed with a handgun, shot at Oliva's home and when Oliva approached him, Lamas grabbed a shotgun and shot at the ground near Oliva, the warrant said.

When Oliva got into his truck, Lamas shot at the truck, the warrant said. The witness who gave Oliva a ride home heard Lamas say "I shot him, we have to go," the warrant said.

The body of Oliva was found the next day on a dirt road in the area of Southwest 186th Street and Southwest 200th Avenue by solid waste management workers, the warrant said.

The witness later identified Lamas as the man who shot Oliva, the warrant said. Another witness told police that Lamas told him he wanted to flee the country, the warrant said.

Lamas remained behind bars without bond Thursday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
