Woman Finds Car Thief Hiding Under Covers in Mother's Bed After Police Chase in Miami

Police said the man's car matched the description of a robbery vehicle.

A police chase ended in a big shock for a Miami woman who found a suspected car thief hiding under the covers in her mother's bed.

The chase started at Northwest 18th Street and 3rd Avenue and ended in Betzy Giuo's neighborhood in the area of Southwest 32nd Terrace and 23rd Avenue in Miami.

Giuo said she found the suspect under her mother's comforter.

"I pulled it away and he got really scared and I went to the cops and he ran into my room," she said.

The chase began when Miami-Dade officers tried to stop the man who was driving a car that matched the description of a stolen vehicle.

A Miami police cruiser and another city car crash at Southwest 17th Avenue and U.S. 1 in the pursuit. Witnesses said the driver of the police cruiser was trying to avoid hitting another car when he crashed into a tree.

The thief continued to flee until he crashed into a pickup truck. He then ran away on foot.

Police set up a perimeter in Giuo's neighborhood using K-9 units. The search ended when the suspect was located in Giuo's house.

"He was just scared," Giuo said. "He didn't threaten me, not at all."

Police said the man is a convicted felon who was recently released from prison. He has not yet been identified and it is unclear what charges the man faces.
